Putting a good face on the weather
No use pretending that it has been nice outside . . . Still, can be a fun weekend and a great teaching experience for the kids. Sometimes, cross country skiing is about accepting imperfection and having fun anyway. We ski when it is too cold, too snowy, too warm and yes, too rainy . . . Hopefully it will stay dry this weekend. But the sooner the kids learn that skiing is not an indoor sport with controlled weather conditions, the better. So long as the adults are smiling and well-prepared, the kids will have fun.
So here is the plan for Saturday:
- Show up in time for a 9 a.m. start (with this weather, we are throwing out the book and playing it by ear this weekend)
- Bring several changes of socks and a rain coat
- Bring an umbrella and a good attitude and smile and laugh a lot
- Bring a camera – you will want to memorialize that day your child skied after it rained all week . . .
- Tell friends that they can register Saturday without paying a last-minute price (who can blame anyone for not registering this week?)
Quick course report:
Pisten Bully did some test grooming this morning. Post-grooming the course was in good shape. Plan is to groom Saturday morning and push snow (there is still plenty of it generally) over the wet areas. The snow is all completely transformed. It is, of course, dirty, but otherwise the skiing should be good.
